With flu, RSV, and COVID all circulating at concerning rates in the U.S., here are some important reminders to help keep you and your loved ones healthy this Thanksgiving.
In addition to understanding how long you may be contagious for, mitigation strategies like regular handwashing, increasing air flow, asymptomatic COVID-19 testing, and masking (ahead of your gathering and during travel) can help reduce the risk of anyone getting sick.
As always, open communication is best. Be transparent ahead of time about your symptoms, exposures, and comfort levels. And if any guests are at higher risk—very young children, older relatives, and those with certain health conditions—be inclusive of their needs.
And if you’re not feeling 100%, by all means, stay home. Sharing is for sides, not symptoms.
Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
In Arizona, there has recently been an increase in Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) cases. This time of the year, many adults and children catch the common cold. Sometimes, what looks like a cold can actually be RSV. Many people recover quickly from RSV in a week or two, but it can be potentially more serious for others such as infants and elderly individuals. Some people are more likely to develop severe RSV infection and may need to be hospitalized.
RSV season occurs every year, and now is the time to take preventive action to keep you and your child safe. Take these preventative measures in order to stay healthy this season:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
- Avoid close contact and distance yourself from sick people.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces.
- Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
- If you're feeling sick, stay home.
