West Nile virus infection can cause serious disease. WNV is established as a seasonal epidemic in North America that flares up in the summer and continues into the fall.

According to Chase Choate, Environmental Department Director:
We have mosquitoes that tested positive for West Nile Virus in traps that were set up at Mesquite Subdivision, Quechan Boat Launch and in the Yuma East Wetlands.
Please use repellent and take needed precautions when outdoors and make sure to check doors and windows for cracks where the mosquitoes get indoors. The Mosquito Abatement crew will continue to trap, spray and monitor the Ft. Yuma Indian Reservation for more positive mosques and inform the Quechan Tribe of the results.
