The Quechan Tribal Council in collaboration with Quechan Parks & Rec. and the Events Committee are happy to announce that we will be hosting a Backpack Giveaway during the 2023 Back to School Event on Saturday - August 12, 2023 at the Quechan Community Center.

We believe that this would be an opportunity to work together to create a healthy start to a new school year by supporting the effort to highlight the importance of education and provide essential tools at no cost for students in our tribal community.

Therefore, we would like to respectfully request the participation of your program for this specific event.  Please refer to your approved budget and Supervisor to ensure that any items you are seeking to purchase are allowable expenses especially if your program is funded by a grant. This can be reported as outreach and you can provide information on the services that your program provides along with your donation(s).

You can show your support by donating supplies and dropping items of at the Head Start office from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This will be an in-person event and we anticipate close to (4•00) students attending. The plan is to prepare and distribute all supplies during the event by having students split into two lines to retrieve grade level appropriate items.

The Quechan Indian Tribe wants you to know that none of this would be possible without the support of programs such as yours and we truly appreciate your kind consideration in advance. Thank you and we hope you all can help us give back to the community we serve. Together We Progress.

We ask that you sign up or make donations no later than AUGUST 10, 2023.

Event Information:

•    10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
•    Head Start - 12th Grade
•    Student(s) must be present in order to receive a free backpack.
•    Backpacks are distributed on a FIRST COME/FIRST SERVE basis/while supplies last.

General - The Quechan Indian Tribe is anticipating and preparing for up to (100) Head Start - 3rd grade and (300) 4th - 12th grade students to attend this exciting event taking place. This will be an in-person event and there will be an entrance with two pathways for the children to follow to the tables to collect grade appropriate bag with supplies and will head towards a marked exit. There will be bottled water provided. 

Supplies -  I have added a listing of general supplies below.

Safety - The Emergency Management Director, Dennis Boone will assess the area for any hazards and inform the public regarding safe practices to utilize during this event to keep you and others around you safe. Our Safety TERO Officer, Robyn Waco will be issuing gloves, masks and sanitizer to each table for your use. Community center will be sprayed before and after the event.
